about

NYS#145

This been 5 years since i released Don't Listen as the first project under the Oreiko name. It was a project, that is influencial in many ways for me, even tho it was made out of spite and desperation, hence i gave it the title of warning people not to listen to it, because it sucks.

Since then a lot has happened in my life and that reflects in the music as well. I could detail a lot of personal things, that happened in those years, but that would make this description way too long. I finally found what i wanted to do after struggling with going to university and failing it (which covers the time of the first few releases - from like 2018 to beginning of 2020). In that time i also had different circles i talked a lot in and made a lot of mistakes along the way as well. But then two new paths happened around the same time. I applied for an apprenticeship for a lot of companies (started right before the pandemic and the search went further when it hit) and also i got to know Octa and the 7Form/NYS crew. That's where a big turn has started for both my life and my musical career.
The first part led me to finding an apprenticeship, finishing it over 3 years and getting a job. The second part led me to making music more freely and learning a lot along the way (also finally getting into ableton).
It made me also realize, that music making can be very fun and i can make some stuff i enjoy a lot to listen to.

Therefore, i wanted to celebrate the 5 years im around making music under Oreiko with one of my most ambitious records i've done yet. Sampling mostly things, that i have sampled before (or just straightup songs i've released) and things i wanted to sample (and had on the pc), but never got into a final product. At the end, there are a few samples, that don't fit that criteria, but whatever man, it's good enough.
Now after 5 years i make music out of fun and not out of a need to make something for some kind of goal. I reached those a while ago and now it's about what you can do next. Therefore, i turned despair into good vibes in many ways in my life and that's a good thought to end this chapter on.

I hope i will stay around for another 5 years making music and i hope you will enjoy this album. Keep on rocking.

Thanks for reading,
Jens
