Most Americans listen to only one radio station at all times the radio is turned on, be it in the car (в машине), at home (дома), or with friends. Many have pointed to corporations such as iHeartRadio (corporate deadname (it's okay to say because corporations aren't people, and it SHOULD be said because not enough people are aware): Clear Channel Communications, Inc.) as the origin of the singularity of present-day music radio, as iHeart "Clear Channel" Radio promulgates playlists to radio stations it controls and drowns out previously popular formats in favor of Top 40 and 80s throwback (itself another disease, but that's for another time). I say 'one' radio station yet refer to thousands across the United States of America, exemplar of anti-human business practice, which unfortunately obey these playlists more strictly than Christian authorities cracked down on heresies in late antiquity and the early medieval period when consolidating their power and influence. Thus, we see monolithic in place of what was once monomanic, a step backwards towards the days of payola and, less distantly, towards Top of the Pops and pre-recorded backing tracks. Razing forests of audiodiversity, we are surprised at our boredom at the supposedly archaic technology of FM radio and turn to services like Spotify, where listener choice is taken to such an extreme that the audience completely disregards the structure of the album and events phenomena such as "skips" and "playlists" to counteract the inbuilt creative element required to record a mixtape to cassette or burn one to CD-R. This is not about the ruin of physicality as much as it is about the gutting of curation; we must learn how to DJ collectively. I have seen emails from college radio stations telling DJs to stop playing tracks off of YouTube not because the audio quality is inferior, but because uBlock quit working. RadioHits is here to protest this bullshit, thanks.
